Mac Classes – June 2014

Hello again everyone, as yet another month has flown right by... Time sure does fly, doesn't it? On to the latest Mac class news...

Class list for June 2014:

Sat., June 7th, from 10 am-nooniPhotography; (thru Weehawken Creative Arts) Ridgway Library conference room
Wed., June 25th, from 5-7 pm: FREE Mac OS X Overview; Ridgway Library
Sat., June 28th, from 10 am-noon: Backups; Ridgway Town Hall

The details:

 First off, next Saturday, June 7th, from 1-4 pm at the Ridgway Library, I'm teaching another iPhotography (iPhone photography) class through Weehawken Creative Arts. As so many photographers are learning these days, the best camera is the one you have with you. And with the advent of quality cameras in smartphones like the iPhone, it's easier than ever to always have a great camera with you. But wait, you say, why are my photos often blurry, or just not that good? I say it's because you need to learn how to use the device better, and an iPhone isn't like a regular point-and-shoot camera! Attend this class, and learn how to start getting really good photos out of your iPhone. As a bonus, we'll spend time learning about the thousands of camera "apps" available for your device, from the Instagram craze to the more techy HDR realm, and everything in-between. Feel free to call me if you have questions about this class (number below). Please sign up with Weehawken if you'd like to attend, or the class might not happen!

 Then, I will be doing my regular last-Wednesday-of-the-month class at the Library. This month, it's the FREE Mac OS X Overview, on Wednesday, June 25th from 5-7 pm. This class is held in the computer lab. Space is limited, so you have to sign up, and the Library has asked that I handle the sign ups, so give me a call at 970-417-8434 (or drop me an email) if you'd like to attend. (Be aware that first-timers take priority over anyone who has taken the class before, but there are often openings for repeaters).

For the Mac Overview, there are six Macs in the computer lab, so only two of the eight attendees need their own laptops. This class is beginner-oriented, but we cover some different things every month; repeat attendees are encouraged (when there's room)!

 Lastly, on Saturday, June 28th, from 10 am to noon, I'll be revisiting the important topic of Backups, and it will cover the gamut, from online tools like Dropbox, Google Drive, iCloud, Carbonite and the like, to the best options for local physical backups. As more and more of our lives are becoming digitized, the importance of having good (and redundant!) backups is becoming more critical by the day. Come learn all there is to know about how to make sure your precious photos and documents are safe for many years to come! Please let me know if you plan to attend this class, so I know whether it's a go or not.

Take care everyone, and hold onto your horses, because summer is upon us!!
